Silly, but made me think

I was working in the 015 District in the late 90's, it was literally the wild west !  As we drove around the district looking for bad guys....the radio cracked alive with an officer calling for more cars. You could tell the seriousness of their request by their voice....and also the background noise.
We flew over to help the cops in distress.....they had tried to arrest someone for a gun, and the person had fought with them. During the ensuing fight, the neighborhood came out to help their neighbor, hence, the cops called for help.
As we were keeping the neighborhood at bay while the bad guy was dragged off into a squad car and eventually into the station,  mama was yelling at the cops doing crowd control. She was telling us how we are dirty cops, she is going to sue us, we are going to get fired, etc etc. You just kind of nod and say "ok...just stay back."
She yelled to one of the her family members......" go get some paper and take down their numbers!!!"
Meaning our names, star numbers and car numbers.......this was years before cell phones.
Her daughter ran inside the house as instructed.....a minute or so later she emerged from the house carrying a grease stained pizza box and a crayon and began writing down our names and car numbers ! I couldn't help but laugh. I couldn't help but laugh thinking of her going to file a complaint the next morning, and bringing her pizza box folded under her arm and whipping it out with all of our names and car numbers.
As silly as this event was.....I remember thinking that more than it being funny, it was sad. There was probably 3 adults and 3 kids living in that house. The only thing they had to write on/with was a used pizza box taken from the trash.....and a crayon. Of course I am making assumptions, maybe that was what was handy at the moment. Maybe they were a very productive family, and this had been just a fluke. Who knows.
